Types of care offered by Optum
A primary care doctor helps with your everyday health needs and connects you to specialists if needed. This means you have one doctor who knows you and your medical history. They oversee all aspects of your health care needs.
Call your health insurance plan’s member services department. The phone number is listed on your plan identification card. You can also call your doctor’s office. They can help you find a provider who works best for you and is covered by your health insurance.
We have a large network of medical professionals in almost every specialty. If there’s a certain specialist you’d like to see, talk to your primary care doctor. They will recommend a specialist based on your needs and location.
Visit medicare.gov and our site, which can help you find the right Medicare Advantage plan for your needs.
Call your pharmacy three to five business days before you run out of your medicine. If there are no refills left, the pharmacy will contact your doctor’s office. You may need to see your doctor before you can get refills.
How insurance works with Optum
No. Our providers contract with major health insurance plans. These include HMOs (health maintenance organizations) and PPOs (preferred provider organizations), Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans and supplement plans.
HMOs and PPOs have different networks of providers, costs and coverage for out-of-network services. Also, HMOs require your doctor to refer you to a specialist. If you’re part of a PPO, you don’t need a referral.
The health insurance plans we accept vary by location. Call your doctor’s office to make sure they accept your health plan. You can also contact your health insurance company to find out if you can see an Optum provider.
*Health care services vary by location. Check with your doctor’s office or health plan for specific information.
